In the United States, Mothers' Day is held annually on the second Sunday in May. In other countries, however, this holiday is held on different dates. In Mexico, for example, Mother's Day is held on May 10. In the United Kingdom, it's held on March 21. In Indonesia, Mother's Day isn't held until Dec. 22.

#4) Millions of Calls Are Made on Mother's Day

According to an AT&T study, over 122 million phone calls are made on this nationally recognized holiday -- even more than Father's Day. As a result, telecommunications companies like AT&T experience heavy phone traffic on Mother's Day.

According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), consumers in the United States are expected to spend an average of $196 on their Mother's Day gift.
